Reflection on Day 6 in India (originally posted January 9, 2019 on personal social media)

Wheels and Wings, Day 6 in India: I had to go back and recount because it seems like we’ve been in India longer than 6 days. We kind of have with the two days of international travel and the time change. But six full days in India it really is. Here’s the recap...
Although not quite as far or long as 7 days ago, today was consumed with travel, this time from North India (Jaipur) to South India. We flew into Bangalore then took a bus to Mysore. From hotel to hotel it took over 11 hours. We are at the Country Inn and Suites so a special shoutout is in order. Not only is this a Minnesota based company, but this appears to be the nicest hotel r oom we’ve stayed in so far. Plus, we received a special Hindi welcome upon arrival too.
Since all day was spent in transit, I won’t have a lot of photos or stories to share. But I’ll mention a couple: In India they drive on the left side of the road, and steering wheels are on the right side. Luggage for domestic flights in India has a weight allowance of 15 kilograms (or about 33 pounds) regardless if you check one or two bags. You pay extra for additional kilograms. A liter of soda costs about 55 cents but 5 extra kilograms of luggage weight (about 11 pounds) cost $17. Several in the group had to pay more. Luckily I was towards the bottom of those with extra fees. We joked that we were going to have to start a Go Fund Me page for one of the guys who had two checked bags but thought you got 30 pounds with each. I think I heard he had to pay almost $100! (And we still have one more domestic flight to take here!)
Oh, and I now know what happens to all the unused Christmas fruitcakes...they’re given to Indigo airlines, which FYI happens to be the largest airline in India. Neither coffee nor tea is free on the plane but you can have a water bottle in your carry on bag. (And no I wasn’t the one to test that). Just like movie theatres, men and women have different line to use going through security. Announcements in the plane are made in Hindi and English although the native language is Kannada (pronounced like Canada). So there you have it, today’s fun facts.
PS when traveling, I like to being little souvenirs from Minnesota to give in appreciation for those that have helped make my trip special. I hope you consider doing the same on your next journey, but follow this advice: DO find items that are light and small (postcards are great for writing a quick note of thanks), however, DONT wait until the MSP airport to buy said tokens of gratitude if you’re on a budget.  #StillTotallyWorthIt
